The solutions in this collection are drawn from outstanding entries of the GoldenKey—SDG Solutions, selected and organized to align with UNCCD priorities on land restoration and sustainable land management. Together, they map out six pathways for Chinese enterprises to combat desertification and restore land. Through these solutions, we illustrate how Chinese enterprises embed sustainable land and water management across energy transition, infrastructure development, resource utilization, industrial upgrading, and ecological restoration, showcasing diverse approaches and proven frameworks for corporate engagement in global land governance.
The selected solutions highlight four key takeaways for the global community:
First, incorporate land considerations into corporate strategies and business practices. Rather than viewing land restoration as isolated philanthropic initiatives, these companies integrate it into project planning, investment decisions, operations, and value chains, achieving synergy between ecological and commercial goals.
Second, advance land restoration via technological and business model innovation. From desertification control through renewable energy and ecological conservation along linear infrastructure, to mine restoration, green industrial transition, and integrated land management, these solutions demonstrate how companies leverage technological and model innovations to deliver new solutions for land restoration.
Third, deliver integrated ecological, economic, and social value. Outstanding solutions focus not only on ecosystem improvement, but also on industrial development, community well-being, and long- term sustainable operations, reflecting a shift in land restoration from "ecological remediation" toward "ecological regeneration" and "shared value creation."
Fourth, generate globally replicable experiences. While land degradation challenges vary across regions, the approaches adopted by these companies — including green transformation, nature-positive innovation, and multi-stakeholder collaboration in land governance — are universally applicable. Land restoration is a global endeavor with a future-focused vision.
We hope this collection bridges Chinese corporate solutions with international land governance, inspiring businesses worldwide to channel innovation toward desertification control, land restoration, and sustainable development. We look forward to more companies joining this movement, and, together, we can build a future where land thrives, ecosystems flourish, and people live.
