Abu Dhabi, October 15 - The 8th World Conservation Congress (WCC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) concluded today in Abu Dhabi, UAE. During the seven-day event under the theme "Powering transformative conservation," over ten thousand participants from governments, NGOs, academia, businesses, indigenous communities, and youth groups shaped conservation and climate priorities for the coming decades through forums, exhibitions, and the Members' Assembly.
As the only Chinese media organization deeply engaged in on-site reporting, China Sustainability Tribune presented outstanding solutions from Chinese enterprises through its "GoldenKey - SDG Solutions" platform.
At a thematic side event organized by IUCN's Climate Change and Energy Transition team on October 11, Deng Mingwen, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Sustainability Tribune, released the Global Demonstration Cases : Chinese Enterprises' Approaches to Nature-based Solutions, featuring NbS practices from State Grid, AnSteel, Guohua Energy, China Shengmu, and other companies. This marked the first collective international presentation of NbS solutions and outcomes from Chinese enterprises, vividly demonstrating their innovative approaches to this global environmental frontier, which received positive feedback from IUCN representatives and environmental professionals.
On the same day, at the China Pavilion side event "Socially Participatory Biodiversity Conservation" co-hosted by three environmental foundations, Du Juan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Sustainability Tribune, shared "China's Corporate Drive for Biodiversity--GoldenKey 路Corporate Biodiversity Actions." This event also represented the first China Pavilion activities organized by China鈥檚 Ministry of Natural Resources at WCC.
On October 13, at the IUCN-hosted session "Unlocking Private Finance for Scalable, Credible and High-Integrity Nature-based Solutions," Xiang Nan, International Cooperation Director of China Sustainability Tribune, detailed Chinese corporate NbS practices and participated in panel discussions.
Later that day, Director Xiang Nan introduced the new natural economy cases from the GoldenKey platform at the Capitals Coalition side event "Interactive Dialogue on Applying Natural Capital into Business Decisions," sharing how Chinese enterprises use capital accounting methods to inform business decisions.
International experts showed particular interest in these Chinese solutions, especially regarding how China addresses ecological conservation challenges like financing, innovation, and public-private collaboration.
Dr. Siobhan McQuaid from University College Dublin, who promotes nature-positive initiatives globally, expressed excitement about the six-year efforts of GoldenKey, noting the scarcity of channels to learn about Chinese sustainability practices. She said that Chinese private sector solutions provide demonstrable models for other countries.
Biodiversity Solutions Engineer Joe Huddart from NatureMetrics expressed interest in collaborating with GoldenKey to incorporate more Chinese cases into global research.
The Nature Research Society, compiling global wetland conservation solutions, plans to include several wetland cases from the Global Demonstration Cases in its research report for global release in March 2026.
Following previous participations in UN biodiversity and climate COPs, this WCC appearance represents a more comprehensive international promotion of Chinese solutions, demonstrating GoldenKey's evolving pathway - from identifying excellent solutions to deep empowerment and broad dissemination, particularly in communicating China's sustainability stories globally.
Launched in October 2020 as a UN SDG Good Practice (#SDGAction33560), "GoldenKey - SDG Solutions" has established a platform showcasing Chinese corporate contributions to SDGs. Over six years, a total of 2,365 corporate SDG solutions have been collected, with 1,054 selected as outstanding GoldenKey SDG solutions.It has established a matrix comprising the National Competition, Special Tracks( GoldenKey路SGCC Special), and Sector-specific Competitions(GoldenKey路Power Sector Special) and Themed Tracks(Global NbS Accelerator Program), expanding its influence.
The GoldenKey's core lies in its AMIVE standard, emphasizing problem-oriented approaches and brand communication perspectives, embodied in its motto "Click and Unlocked." Through professional, competitive, and impartial processes, it identifies benchmark SDG solutions from Chinese enterprises.
GoldenKey's mission focuses on multi-stakeholder collaboration and empowerment, providing Chinese enterprises with platforms for demonstration and value enhancement,creating exemplary models with an international perspective and Chinese wisdom. The Global NbS Accelerator Program represents a new experiment - with support from IUCN China, 12 representative corporate NbS practices have gained international exposure through expert guidance.
As the 2025 WCC concludes and COP30 approaches, GoldenKey aims to broader promote China's practical solutions, contributing proven Chinese wisdom to global sustainable development while fostering cross-sector collaboration for corporate sustainability innovation.
