In August 2025, the State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company's "Lighting up Every Home" service brand underwent significant upgrades. Began in 2015 as a public welfare project, it focused on electrical circuit renovations for disadvantaged groups and now has evolved into a comprehensive service system covering urban, rural, and industrial communities. The initiative has served over 8,000 households across seven provinces. In April this year, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Company officially elevated it to a model brand integrating power services with social governance.

Supported by the Sustainability Innovation Communication Hub, jointly established by China Sustainability Tribune and Peking University, faculty and students from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Communication University of China and other institutions participated in a seven-day "Lighting up Every Home · Light Chaser Initiative" brand experience program. The event consisted of two phases: a in-depth research in urban, rural and industrial communities and volunteer services for electrical circuit renovations in families with financial difficulties in Changshan County.

In urban communities, participants witnessed innovative services like big data-powered electricity usage alerts for elderly living alone. Rural research examined the "Shared Electrician Alliance" practice of solving power issues through community bench meetings. Industrial zone visits showcased the"Tidal Energy Smart Solutions" green product clusters driving low-carbon transformation.

Beyond field observations, young participants actively contributed ideas. Zhao Danlin from Communication University of China proposed developing an "Energy-Carbon Manager" simulation game and plans to produce a documentary. British exchange student Oliver gained new perspectives on China's energy transition through UK-China grid comparisons. Qian Haijun, the project founder honored as "Role Model of the Times," noted that young people's innovative thinking has injected new vitality into the initiative.

Wang Hongfei, a postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University, observed that the project demonstrates the power grid's unique value in primary-level governance, recommending maintaining flexibility during standardization efforts. With youth participation, "Lighting up Every Home" is transforming from a public service into an exemplary governance model, with its experiences gaining broader dissemination through young perspectives.
